A disc brake is a form of brake that generates friction by pressing pairs of pads up against a disc or "rotor" using calipers. This procedure slows the rotation of a shaft, such as an axle of a vehicle, either to slow down the rotation or to keep it still.
Disc brakes are typically employed in passenger cars. Still, they are progressively making their way into the commercial vehicle market, where drum brakes were formerly preferred for their longer lifespan due to their consistent performance at higher speeds and resistance to brake fade. Akebono is committed to satisfying the rising consumer demand for higher quality products with a longer lifespan through continuous improvement of the disc brake's dependability. The disc brake comes in two varieties. While the "floating type disc brake" only has a piston on one side, the "opposed piston type disc brake" has pistons on both sides of the disc rotor. Sliding pin type disc brakes are another name for floating caliper type disc brakes.
